Sinininthasouth commands $145,000 at OBS

SINININTHASOUTH (Sweetsouthernsaint) brought a winning bid of $145,000 from
Tommy Hutton’s Dream Stable to lead the way at Thursday’s concluding session of
the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training.
Cataloged as Hip No. 1256, the bay filly was consigned by McKathan Brothers,
agent.

The Florida-bred is a half-sister to current stakes victress Leigh McLovin
(Flame Thrower), an impressive winner of the Letellier Memorial S. at Fair
Grounds two starts back. They are out of the unraced Doc’s Stormy Girl (Dr.
Caton) and hail from the family of Grade 1 heroine and stakes producer Countus
In (Dancing Count).

At last Saturday’s under tack show, the juvenile drilled a quarter-mile in
:21.

A daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus, Hip 1081, went to LRK Inc. for the next
highest price of $120,000. The Kentucky-bred was making her third auction
appearance. A $30,000 Keeneland November weanling, she attracted $40,000 as a
Fasig-Tipton July yearling.

The two-year-old was produced by the winning Broad Brush mare Broad Path, who
is herself a half-sister to multiple stakes scorers Glaring (Known Fact), Val
d’Enchere (Val de l’Orne [Fr]) and Great Escape (Relaunch). This is the family
of Unfurl the Flag (Bertrando), hero of the 2005 Triple Bend Invitational H.
(G1).

The bay worked two furlongs in :21 2/5 for consignor Tradewinds Farm, agent.

On Thursday, 196 horses were sold for a total of $4,841,000, down 5.2 percent
from last year’s final session, when $5,107,400 was realized by 189 horses. The
average dipped 8.6 percent, from $27,023 to $24,699, while the median price fell
6.3 percent, from $16,000 to $15,000. The buyback percentage was 23.1 percent,
compared to 27.3 percent one year ago.

For the entire four-day sale, 809 horses sold for a total of $20,194,300, a
decline of 10.6 percent from 2008, when 772 horses grossed $22,578,000. The
average of $24,962 dropped 14.6 percent from the $29,246 recorded last year. The
median decreased 16.7 percent, from $18,000 to $15,000. The buyback percentage
was 23.1 percent; it was 27.6 percent in 2008.

The sale topper was Hip 38, a colt by A.P. Indy consigned by M. Neal Sims,
Agent, and sold to John Ferguson Bloodstock for $675,000. The bay colt, out of
Grade 1 winner Got Koko (Signal Tap), worked an eighth in :10 2/5 at the first
under tack show.

Next on the OBS calendar is the June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of
Racing Age, set for June 16-17, with under tack shows scheduled for June 13-14
at 8 a.m. (EDT).
