A deep field of 11 distaffers will travel nine furlongs over the Arlington
Polytrack in the $150,000 Arlington Matron H. (G3) on Saturday. Doubledogdare S.
(G3) heroine INDESCRIBABLE (Pleasant Tap) couldn’t have looked much better in
her last and is a budding star for Bill Mott, so we have to side with the
five-year-old. She’ll go for a title defense in this race with Kent Desormeaux
retaining the mount.
The win machine known as EUPHONY (Forest Wildcat) will make her synthetic and
graded debut in here for Donnie Von Hemel. A heroine of four consecutive stakes
events, the Kentucky-bred miss seems well spotted in this field and gave an
indication that she like this oval two works back, when firing a bullet six
furlongs.
Multiple stakes victress KISS WITH A TWIST (Lemon Drop Kid) has been a model
of consistency as of late for Jose Fernandez, finishing fourth or better in 10
straight affairs. The bay mare has good positional speed and is a must use in
the exotics.
Doubledogdare runner-up SERENADING (A.P. Indy) boasts a superb 12-4-6-1 mark
on synthetic surfaces and rates a solid chance in this field if the top one
falters. The Josie Carroll pupil prefers to stalk in midpack before putting in
her best run, and if the pace is swift, she might get first run on the closers.
John Velazquez will be in the irons.
Arlington Oaks (G3) star SKY MOM (Maria’s Mon) hasn’t shown much in her
two tries since switching from Steve Asmussen to Al Stall Jr., but the bay was clearly prepping for this in a
sprint last out and is eligible for vast improvement from the inside post. The
four-year-old should be in midpack early under Jamie Theriot before putting in
her best run.
Impressive allowance vixen VENETIAN CAUSEWAY (Giant’s Causeway) is a one-run
closer who has been getting better as of late for Shug McGaughey, and the
well-bred filly is a live longshot for the exotics in here. While the chestnut
didn’t beat much last out, the manner in which she did so suggests that she is
rounding into career-best form. Brice Blanc has the call on the four-year-old,
who is cross-entered to the Sheepshead Bay (G2) at Belmont Park. Eric Coatrieux will saddle BORN TO BE (A.P. Indy), who
was last seen wiring an allowance field at Keeneland in her last. The
stakes-quality filly has clearly been a better performer on synthetic ovals and
she’s another to throw into the gimmicks. Rene Douglas will be aboard.
GLORIA GOODBODY (Arch) has speed and was a solid allowance grass winner at
Keeneland in her latest venture, but she lacks the credentials to challenge this
group at this stage. LAGUNA PLATEADA (Chi) (Sir Cat) has finished better than fifth just once in
seven tries in the United States, and she looks like she’s in deep in this affair. HOME’S THE BEST (Western Playboy) and BOUDOIR (Mutakddim) both drew wide and
seem outclassed against these.
