Cash Counter Stables’ EVERYDAY HEROES (Awesome Again) proved much the best
when making his stakes debut in Saturday’s $100,000

Hirsch Jacobs S. (G3)
at Pimlico, recording a 3 3/4-length decision while
running toward the grandstand rail in deep stretch. Now unbeaten in four career
starts, the Tim Ritchey-trained sophomore tracked the pace in third down the
backstretch, moved three wide to the lead at the top of the stretch and quickly
drew clear, passing the five-furlong mark with a two-length advantage in :56
4/5. The bay colt drifted out badly inside the final furlong, but he was never
threatened and completed six furlongs over the fast oval in 1:09 2/5.

Sent off the 7-1 fifth-choice under Jose Caraballo, Everyday Heroes paid
$16.40, $8.40 and $5.60 and keyed the $91 exacta with the late-running Not for
Silver (Not for Love), who was good for $6.40 and $4.20 at 5-1. It was 1 1/2
lengths back to the 8-1 Checklist (Gone West), who dueled through opening splits
in :22 3/5 and :44 4/5 before weakening. Show was good for $6, the trifecta
yielded $938 and the 2-3-8-7 superfecta totaled $4,702. Nuclear Wayne
(Mineshaft) finished a nose back in fourth at 4-1 and was followed under the
wire by Ju Jitsu Jax (Tiger Ridge), 2-1 favorite Taqarub (Aldebaran), Yano
(Yonaguska), Despite the Odds (Speightstown) and Essenceofthemoon (Malibu Moon).

“He has tons of ability, but we may need to keep him focused a little more
during his races,” Ritchey said. “He had a few problems in the stretch today
with the crowd and the noise. He could be a really good horse. He is already a
strong sprinter, and his pedigree says that he may go longer.”

Everyday Heroes was making his first start outside of Oaklawn Park. He
captured his career bow in February and also posted an allowance and an
allowance/optional claiming win over the Hot Springs, Arkansas, oval. With
Saturday’s $60,000 winner’s share, he’s now earned $124,800.

Bred in Kentucky by Marathon Farms, Everyday Heroes was purchased for
$400,000 at the 2007 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga August sale. He’s out of the
stakes-winning mare Lucette (Dayjur), who is a half-sister to Broodmare of the
Year Baby Zip (Relaunch), the dam of Grade 1 winner and sire City Zip and 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper
who, like Everyday Heroes, is by Awesome Again. Lucette is also the dam of an
unnamed juvenile filly by Gone West, a yearling colt by Fusaichi Pegasus and a
2009 colt by Elusive Quality.
