A well-matched field of seven will go six panels in the $100,000 Winning
Colors S. (G3) at Churchill Downs on Memorial Day. We could land on any of the
seven in this wide-open test, but we’ll take our stand with TEMPLE STREET
(Street Cry [Ire]). A closing second in the Humana Distaff S. (G1) in her
latest, the genius claim is in top form and should have a strong pace to run at.
We don’t view her latest as a fluke and expect her to circle this field under
Jon Court.
KEEP THE PEACE (Touch Gold) has excellent early speed and has never been
worse than second over this oval, so the Eddie Kenneally filly is an obvious
threat against these. The four-time graded stakes-placed lass zipped a bullet
half-mile in readying for this affair, and if she can avoid a speed duel early,
she’ll be tough.
DUBAI MAJESTY (Essence of Dubai) looked home free in the Humana Distaff most
recently, opening up a four-length lead in midstretch, prior to being corraled
by a pair of fillies late. The Bret Calhoun trainee is razor-sharp right now and
should benefit from the cut-back in trip, and a clear early lead could be
parlayed into a win beneath Jamie Theriot.
The talented TAR HEEL MOM (Flatter) will make her graded stakes debut in
here, her first start since January. Now back in the hands of William Denzik,
for whom she made her career bow last June, the four-year-old has missed the
board just once in her career. Tar Heel Mom left a good impression on us with
her stint in New York, which included a tally in the Meadow Star S., and we’ll
definitely use this Kentucky-bred in the exotics.
All-weather specialist TIZ TO DREAM (Tiznow) sports an uninspiring 6-0-0-1
mark over this strip, but the likely longshot has run some decent races beneath
the Twin Spires for Ian Wilkes. She finished third in the La Troienne S. (G3) at
Churchill last spring and she could get a piece from off the pace, likely along
the rail, beneath Calvin Borel.
LADY CHACE (Tiznow) has never been better. The Kentucky-bred has been burning
up the turf of late but impressed in her lone dirt effort in 2009, crushing
allowance foes by 5 1/2 lengths at Fair Grounds. We are skeptical of the trip
she may encounter near the pace, though, and we’ll side elsewhere.
NADESHIKO (Honour and Glory) defeated Keep the Peace at big odds last out for
Greg Foley, but will have to prove to us that she is capable of another such
effort. Although the dark bay four-year-old has been getting into her races
earlier, she still seemingly lacks the firepower to upend this group.
