Sagamore Farm’s SHARED ACCOUNT (Pleasantly Perfect), who had run on nothing
other than less-than-firm turf in two prior starts on grass, relished the boggy
Mellon turf at Saratoga when taking the $150,000
Lake
Placid S. (G2) for three-year-old fillies on Friday. The 2-1 favorite in a
field of seven, Shared Account tracked in second as Kiddari (Smarty Jones) set
splits of :24 3/5, :50 2/5 and 1:15 4/5, then took over from that rival in the
stretch to post a one-length score under Edgar Prado in a time of 1:54 3/5 for
nine furlongs. She paid $6.90, $3.80 and $2.60 while topping the $26.80 exacta,
$130 trifecta and $424 superfecta (4-5-2-1).
Grade 3 winner Keertana (Johar) rallied from fifth to be second by a length
over Katara (Pulpit), who had two lengths up on Miss Keller (Ire) (Montjeu
[Ire]). Keertana, at 7-2, returned $4.10 and $2.60 while Katara gave back $4 at
8-1. Following Miss Keller under the wire were My Magic Moment (Forest Wildcat),
Consequence (El Prado [Ire]) and Kiddari. Mary’s Follies (More Than Ready) was
withdrawn, as was main-track-only entrant Casanova Move (Langfuhr).
“This is the kind of filly we thought we had this winner,” winning trainer
Graham Motion said. “We always thought she was this good. I think she’s a
special filly, but she’s a little one-paced. (She needs) a mile and an eighth, a
mile and a quarter. (Prado) rode with a lot of confidence.
“One thing about this filly is she hasn’t run on a firm turf course yet. It
will be interesting to see her on firm ground or even Polytrack.”
Shared Account won her first two career starts over the main track at Laurel,
but was beaten by more than 20 lengths in both the Davona Dale S. (G2) and
Bonnie Miss S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park prior to receiving a two-month break. After
taking her dirt
allowance comeback at Delaware Park in May, the bay rallied for third in the
Perfect Sting S. over a yielding Belmont turf after chasing tepid fractions. She
improved on that effort when falling a head short in claiming runner-up honors
in the Virginia Oaks (G3) at Colonial Downs, which was contested on soft ground.
After this initial stakes victory, Shared Account has now accumulated $190,560
in career earnings from a line of 8-4-1-1.
Bred in Kentucky by William Carl, Shared Account was a $170,000 Keeneland
September purchase. Produced by the winning Silk N’ Sapphire (Smart Strike),
Shared Account is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Mark of Success (Mt.
Livermore), an unnamed juvenile colt by Cherokee Run and a 2009 Pleasant Tap
filly. Silk N’ Sapphire is herself a
half-sister to Grade 2 winner Sapphire N’ Silk (Pleasant Tap), the dam of Grade
2 winner Shaniko (A.P. Indy) and multiple stakes winner Silky Smooth (Mr.
Greeley). Grade 2 winners Smooth Air (Smooth Jazz), Justwhistledixie (Dixie
Union), Pok Ta Pok (Full Pocket) and Penny’s Reshoot (Turkey Shoot) also hail
from this family.
Further back, this female line produced Broodmare of the Year Shenanigans
(Native Dancer), the dam of legendary Hall of Fame filly Ruffian (Reviewer) as
well as Grade 2 winners and sires Icecapade (Nearctic) and Buckfinder (Buckpasser).
Shenanigans is also the ancestress of Grade 1 winners Coronado’s Quest (Forty
Niner) and Private Terms (Private Account).
