A filly from the second crop of Grade 1 winner Wildcat Heir brought a final
bid of $100,000 from Repole Stable at Tuesday’s first session of the Ocala
Breeders’ Sales Company’s August Open Yearling Sale. Offered by Woodside Ranch,
agent, the New York-bred toured the ring as Hip No. 259.
Produced by the winning Afleet Closer (Afleet), the February 14 foal is a
half-sister to stakes-winning producer Diablo’s Closer (Diablo) as well as
Driven by Success (Precise End), who ran third in the Metropolitan H. (G1),
Carter H. (G1) and Tom Fool H. (G2) earlier this year and was most recently
second in the John Morrissey S. at Saratoga on August 6.
The session’s second highest price was the $50,000 offered for I BE A COVER
GIRL by Riley James. From the first crop of Grade 3 winner With Distinction, the
filly toured the ring as Hip 490 and was consigned by Cutting Edge Equine,
agent.
The Florida-bred juvenile, foaled on March 29, was produced by the unraced
Entre Nous (Meadowlake), a half-sister to the multiple stakes-placed On Safari
(Lion Cavern). This is the family of Grade 1 winner Chief Honcho (Chief’s Crown)
and multiple Grade 2 winner American Chance (Cure the Blues).
On Tuesday, 193 yearlings sold for $1,465,800. This represented a decline of
33.9 percent from the comparable session a year ago when $2,217,500 was realized
from the sale of 198 head. The average was off 32.2 percent, from $11,199 to
$7,595.
The sale runs through Thursday with daily sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m.
(EDT). For more information, visit obssales.com.
