Courtlandt Farms’ homebred INDESCRIBABLE (Pleasant Tap) was content to track
in midpack of Saturday’s $100,000

Kentucky Cup Distaff (G3)
at Turfway Park, began her rally entering the turn
four wide and easily pulled off to be 3 1/2 lengths clear of her nearest pursuer
under jockey Garrett Gomez. The Bill Mott trainee was never challenged late
while finishing up 1 1/16 miles on the Polytrack in 1:42 4/5.

Whirlie Bertie (Stormin Fever) rushed up to take the lead when the gates
opened, with defending champion Bear Now (Tiznow) following along in second.
Irish Ridge (Cactus Ridge) followed in third, and Indescribable was loping along
eight lengths back of the pacesetter. After setting splits of :23 4/5, :47 and
1:11 2/5, Whirlie Bertie found Bear Now threatening to her outside. She battled
to hold that rival at bay, but nothing could stop the Indescribable onslaught,
who took over through a mile in 1:36 2/5 and went on to capture her fourth Grade
3 victory.

Indescribable’s only other win this year came in the Doubledogdare S. (G3) at
Keeneland in mid-April, and she also scored in the Cardinal H. (G3) and
Arlington Matron H. (G3) last season. Third while going for a title defense in
the Arlington Matron in May, the chestnut mare was subsequently switched to the
turf and proceeded to thrown in subpar efforts, finishing eighth in the All
Along S. (G3), 10th in the Diana S. (G1) and eighth again in the Voodoo Dancer
S. last out. Moved back to a preferred synthetic track for this one, the
five-year-old returned to her old form and improved her career mark to 22-7-1-5,
$474,492.

“That was a nice race,” Mott said. “She looked comfortable down the
backstretch. She was in the bridle and traveling nicely. It was like her race in
Keeneland this spring (Doubledogdare). With her it seems like surface is key.
Seems like she’s figured out that this is the surface she likes. She was
confusing this summer because she was running subpar races but training better
than she ever had. The Spinster (S. [G1] at Keeneland on October 11) is
definitely a race we’ll consider.”

Sent off the 2-1 second choice in the eight-horse field, Indescribable
returned $6.20, $3.60 and $2.80 while keying the $28 exacta and $113.20
trifecta. Unforgotten (Northern Afleet) raced next to last early on, but came
with a game rush to grab second by a half-length over Whirlie Bertie, paying $4
and $2.80 as the 9-2 fourth pick. The early leader gave back $3.80 at 7-2 for
holding third by three parts of a length. Bear Now, the 8-5 favorite, ended the
10-1-9-6 superfecta that totaled $258.20.

Irish Ridge faded to fifth, and was followed under the line by French Kiss
(Hussonet), Ms. Margaret H. (Point Given) and Madly (Stormin Fever). Dreaming of
Liz (El Prado [Ire]) and Adhsilver (Adhocracy) were scratched.

The Kentucky-bred Indescribable is out of stakes heroine Catnip (Flying
Paster) and has a juvenile half-brother named Masterful Act (Pleasantly Perfect)
and an unnamed yearling half-sister by Arch. Catnip is herself a half-sister to
European champion Hold That Tiger (Storm Cat) and multiple Grade 1 hero and sire
Editor’s Note (Forty Niner), who captured the 1996 Belmont S. (G1).

Indescribable’s third dam, T. C. Kitten (Tom Cat), produced the dams of Grade
1-winning top sire Hennessy (Storm Cat), 1985 champion two-year-old filly Family
Style (State Dinner) and Grade 1 heroines Lost Kitty (Magesterial) and Pearl
City (Carson City). Others of note in this family include Group/Grade 2 victors Arkadian Hero (Trempolino), Sovereign Kitty (Sovereign Dancer)
and Tour of the Cat (Tour d’Or).
