SUMMER BIRD (Birdstone), hero of the Belmont S. (G1) and Travers S. (G1), was
originally scheduled to return to the worktab on Saturday for the first time
since winning the “Midsummer Derby,” but found his work postponed until Tuesday
due to all the rain that hit the Northeast over the weekend.

“He was supposed to go on Saturday, but because of the rain, we decided to
wait,” said owner Kalarikkal Jayaraman, who filled in for trainer Tim Ice last
week while Ice visited with his wife in Louisiana.

Jayaraman said Ice would be back in town on Monday afternoon and would send
Summer Bird out Tuesday morning.

Another high profile three-year-old exiting the Travers is also getting ready
to work. Grade 1 winner QUALITY ROAD (Elusive Quality), who was third as the
favorite in that race, is expected to breeze a half-mile for trainer Todd
Pletcher on Monday.

Also expected to return to the worktab early this week following his victory
in the August 8 Arlington Million (G1) is GIO PONTI (Tale of the
Cat). The four-year-old bay, currently leading the turf division, has captured
his last four starts on grass, taking Belmont Park’s Man o’ War S. (G1) and
Manhattan S. (G1) as well as the Frank E. Kilroe Mile H. (G1) at Santa Anita on
March 7.
