Six-figure offerings were more prominent at Tuesday’s second session of the
Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearlings Sale at Newtown Paddocks near Lexington,
Kentucky. Glen Hill Farm played a major role in that positive development,
securing the session’s top three offerings. Highest among these was a gray Tapit
colt purchased for $150,000. Sporting Hip No. 556, the April 14 Kentucky-bred
was offered by Equus Farm (Jerry Cummins/Paul Adams), agent.
Produced from the multiple stakes-winning Frans Lass (Shanekite), the
yearling is a half-brother to the multiple stakes-placed producer French Lass
(French Deputy). Frans Lass herself is a full sister to stakes winners Shanes
Lass and Irishkite and a half-sibling to the stakes-winning producer Unique
Creek (Tricky Creek).
The session’s highest priced filly, SOLAR SPOTLIGHT (Indian Charlie),
commanded a final bid of $135,000. The March 29 Kentucky-bred, wearing Hip 570,
was consigned by Glenmalure LLC (Peter & Gina Kirwan), agent.
Produced from Girl in Velvet (Afleet), the filly is a half-sister to the
Grade 2-placed stakes winner Pretty Jane (Subordination). This is the family of
1959 champion older mare Tempted (*Half Crown) and Grade 1-winning producer
Broom Dance (Dance Spell).

Glen Hill also went to $130,000 for a Kitten’s Joy colt offered by Ramsey
Farm, agent. The May 4 Kentucky-bred toured the ring as Hip 382. Produced from
Cardinalli (Capote), the bay counts as his second dam the Grade 1-placed stakes
winner Footing (Forty Niner). This is the family of Grade 2 queen Masseuse
(Dynaformer).
On Tuesday, 188 horses brought $2,760,100, a decline of 12.3 percent from the
comparable session last year when $3,147,200 was realized from the sale of 205
yearlings. The session average was off 4.4 percent, from $15,532 to $14,681,
while the median rose 25 percent, from $6,000 to $7,500.
After two sessions, $4,708,600 has been grossed from the sale of 363
yearlings, a decline of 11.5 percent from last year when 387 head brought
$5,320,300. The average has declined 5.7 percent, from $13,478 to $12,971, while
the median has remained flat at $6,000.
