A well-matched field of 11 turf sprinters will contest the $100,000 Senator
Ken Maddy H. (G3) at Santa Anita on Saturday. Grade 2 queen TUSCAN EVENING (Ire)
(Oasis Dream [GB]) rolled to five wins in her initial six tries on U.S. sod
prior to an unplaced effort in the John C. Mabee H. (G1) last out for Jerry
Hollendorfer. A lights-out winner in her first two outings on this turf course,
the filly was third at 3-5 odds in the Las Cienegas S. (G3) and is more than
capable of leading this field at every call with her best. Victor Espinoza will
guide the bay.

QUEEN OFTHE CATSLE (Tale of the Cat) has evolved into one of the better turf
sprinters on the West Coast for Howard Zucker, which includes a one-length
triumph in this affair in 2008. The classy dark bay has an impressive 17-7-7-0
lifetime mark, with a sparkling 12-6-5-0 turf record, and she’s another with a
winning chance in this ultra-competitive field.

ROYAL TAAT (NZ) (Faltaat) has posted two impressive wins over this unique oval
for John Sadler and rates a chance at a nice price. The
five-year-old bay had a nice prep for this when third in the Daisycutter H.
going
five panels at Del Mar and should have a ton of early pace at which to run.
Joel Rosario has the call.

Recent Palomar H. (G2) queen GOTTA HAVE HER (Royal Academy) has finished in
the top three in nine of her past 10 starts and is three-for-three over the downhill
turf for Jenine Sahadi. The talented and consistent mare loves Santa Anita and
almost always fires, so we can’t leave her off of our tickets under Tyler Baze.

The swift REBA IS TOPS (He’s Tops) has been first or second in an incredible
nine races in her last 10 tries and has tremendous turf form for Mark Glatt.
The fleet mare missed by a nose in the Las Cienegas H. (G3) at this distance in
the spring and is arguably better now, so we can see the five-year-old taking
this race with any luck.

FLASHOVER (Unusual Heat) has a nice outside draw and had a perfect prep for
this, but the Barry Abrams charge has a career-best 90 BRIS Speed figure at this
distance, and that won’t get it done here. PASAR SILBANO (Ire) (Elnadim), who
won the La Habra S. (G3) over this course and distance in the spring, had the
misfortune of drawing the rail in this big field for James Cassidy. The speedy
sophomore will only have to tote a feathery 112 pounds in here, receiving up to
10 pounds from her foes, but her youth and poor draw causes us to look
elsewhere.

Trainer Linda Rice makes an intriguing move in importing MOHEGAN SKY
(Straight Man) from New York for this dash, but the gray is winless in her last 10 and has
never run at Santa Anita. We can’t endorse the six-year-old. PORTO MARMAY (Ire)
(Choisir) has ability and will likely be doing her best late, but we don’t like
her chances at the win against this grizzled group.

We’ve liked the progress shown by ANNIHILATION (Northern Afleet) and don’t
completely discount her chances at a placing, but her lack of familiarity on
this course coupled with the depth of this field leads us to believe that she
might be in a bit deep. GADGET QUEEN (Flying with Eagles) looks a cut below this
group and would be a major surprise.
