The nominations for the 2009 Cartier Racing Awards, European horseracing’s
equivalent of the Oscars, were revealed Saturday.
The Cartier Racing Awards recognize excellence in horseracing. Now in their
19th year, the eight prestigious horse awards are determined by points earned in
pattern races combined with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists, as
well as votes from readers of the Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph.
One person will also receive an award, the Cartier/Daily Telegraph
Award of Merit, which in the past has been won by Her Majesty The Queen, Sheikh
Mohammed, Henry Cecil, Khalid Abdulla, John Magnier, HH Aga Khan, Frankie
Dettori, Henry Cecil and Lester Piggott.
European horseracing’s most sought-after accolades will be presented during a
glittering ceremony before invited guests at Claridge’s Hotel in Mayfair,
London, on Tuesday evening.
This year has provided some of the greatest performances seen on the
racecourse for many years and the nominations, in alphabetical order, for the
