Tizahit scores in Demoiselle

Jim and Susan Hill’s TIZAHIT (Tiznow) rallied to the lead in midstretch and
drove to a one-length score in Saturday’s $200,000

Demoiselle S. (G2)
at Aqueduct, registering her first stakes victory in the
process. Trained by George Weaver, the juvenile lass completed the 1 1/8-mile
test in 1:53 over the fast track.

With Edgar Prado skillfully at the helm, the dark bay settled into a perfect
stalking position before launching her move off of the far turn. Oh Diane
(Stephen Got Even) and Fuzzy Britches (Pollard’s Vision) both showed some speed
at the start, with the former establishing a first quarter-mile in :23 2/5. Tizahit had moved to second, 1 1/2 lengths back of the pacesetter, after a pokey
half-mile in :49 1/5. She continued to bide her time through three-quarters in
1:15, and when Prado let it out a notch upon entering the stretch, Tizahit
surged to a one-length advantage. Passing the eighth-pole in 1:40 2/5, the
juvenile miss had
plenty in reserve to withstand the late run of Protesting (A.P. Indy), who
settled for second following a less-than-perfect trip in traffic.

“I thought Edgar did a good job placing her,” Weaver said. “In my eyes she
was really just kind of a closer, didn’t have a whole lot of speed, but he
recognized that there weren’t a lot of other horses with speed. He placed her
forwardly without going crazy and just gave us a good trip, no trouble.
Obviously with the outcome, I couldn’t be more delighted with the trip.”

“Beautiful trip, everything worked out perfect,” Prado commented. “It was a
slow pace and my filly was doing everything comfortably.”

Off as the near 3-1 third choice, the winner paid $7.90, $3.50 and $2.80
while keying the $28.80 exacta with slight 5-2 favorite Protesting, who gave back
$3.30 and $2.70. It was 3 3/4 lengths back to 5-2 second choice Fuzzy Britches,
who totaled $3.30 and capped the $91.50 trifecta (4-5-2). Miss Afleet Alex
(Afleet Alex), Oh Diane, In the Rough (Stormy Atlantic) and Profiteroles (Afleet
Alex) rounded out the order of finish.

Bred in Virginia by Morgan’s Ford Farm, Tizahit was purchased by the Hills
for $185,000 at the 2008 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She’s out of the
unraced Kris S. mare Never a No Hitter, who is also the dam of a weanling colt by
Indian Charlie. Never a No Hitter hails from multiple Grade 3 heroine Jeano (Fappiano),
who is also responsible for Contrive (Storm Cat), the dam of 2005 champion
two-year-old filly Folklore (Tiznow). Jeano is out of Grade 1 queen Basie (In
Reality).

Tizahit, who finished fourth in the Tempted S. (G3) at Belmont Park in her
previous start, has now earned $161,925 from a 4-2-1-0 line. She opened her
racing career with a 2 3/4-length victory in an off-the-turf maiden special
weight at Monmouth Park and followed it with a second in the Blue Hen S. at
Delaware Park.

“We’ll probably give her a little bit of a breather,” Weaver said when asked
about future plans.
