Crystal Bull brings $95,000 at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic

Last updated: 12/7/09 7:55 PM

CRYSTAL BULL (Holy Bull), an 11-year-old mare consigned by Charlton (Mr. &
Mrs. Rick Abbott), agent, brought a bid of $95,000 from Federico Barberino,
agent, to lead all offerings at Monday’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed
Sale at Timonium, Maryland. Sporting Hip No. 83, Crystal Bull was sold in foal
to Pollard’s Vision on a May 23 cover.

Crystal Bull is therefore carrying a full sibling to her best offspring to date, the multiple Italian
stakes-winning juvenile and Group 3-placed Air Crew (Pollard’s Vision).

Produced from the multiple stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Water Crystals
(Crystal Water), Crystal Bull is a half-sister to stakes winner Track Gossip (Shahrastani),
the dam of multiple Grade 3 winner Crash Course (Holy Bull). The stakes-winning
Drop a Line (Lemon Drop Kid), third in the Suwannee River S. (G3) earlier this
year, is also from this family. Crystal Bull’s third dam was the multiple
stakes-winning Curious Clover (Berseem), who won back-to-back editions
of the Santa Margarita H. in 1964-65.

The three-year-old FIFTEEN MOONS (Malibu Moon) brought $38,000 from Country
Life Farm, agent. Hip 98 was sold as a broodmare prospect by Bill Reightler,
agent.

Unplaced in two starts this year, Fifteen Moons is out of the stakes-winning
Prospective Joy (Allen’s Prospect), making her a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Hookedonthefeelin (Citidancer), the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner
Pussycat Doll (Real Quiet) and the multiple stakes-placed Blowing Kisses
(Vindication). This is also the family of Grade 3 winners Potomac Bend (Polish
Numbers) and Tent Up (Shelter Half).

The sale’s highest-priced weanling was Hip 210, a gray Two Punch colt
purchased by Buzz Chace, agent for West Point, for $35,000. The March 28
Maryland-bred was consigned by Marshall W. Silverman, agent for the Buckingham
Farm dispersal.

Produced from the winning Aunt Elaine (Charismatic), the colt counts as his second dam the
Grade 3-winning Annie Cake (Gate Dancer). The weanling’s fourth dam, La Reine
Rouge (King’s Bishop), produced Grade 3 winner and sire Green Alligator (Gate
Dancer), the multiple stakes-winning Lucky Lavender Gal (Carson City)
and the multiple Grade 2-placed La Ville Rouge (Carson City), the dam of 2006
Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Barbaro (Dynaformer).

There were declines across the board at the one-day sale. On Monday, 169 head
brought a gross of $776,300 for an average of $4,593 and a median of $2,000.
That represented declines of 33.6 percent, 26.9 percent and 33.3 percent from a
year ago when $1,169,400 was realized from the sale of 186 horses for an average
of $6,287 and a median of $3,000.
