Last updated: 12/8/09 5:28 PM

Arqana’s December Yearling Sale brought a close to the European sales season
Tuesday and it was a colt by Oasis Dream (GB) who headed the list when selling
for 48,000. Consigned by Haras de la
Perelle, Hip No. 908 is out of Jade Jewel (Mr. Prospector), a full sister to
sire Jade Hunter, who has already produced the Grade 2-placed Green Light
(Sheikh Albadou [GB]), dam of Prioress S. (G1) runner-up Light Green (Pleasantly
Perfect). Michael Houyvet’s Agence Equus was the name on the docket.

Anna and Etienne Drion’s Coulonces consignment included an in-demand son of
Lion Heart to sell for 38,000. Hip 804 is
from the family of the 2001 Tom Fool H. (G2) winner and sire Exchange Rate
(Danzig) and 2003 Rose of Lancaster S. (Eng-G3) scorer Sabre d’Argent (Kris S.),
as well as the smart current runner Cable (Dynaformer) and was snapped up by
Frederic Sauque.

Con Marnane paid 36,000 for the
Neustrian Associates’ Hip 868, an Iffraaj colt whose dam is the stakes-winning
Ethelinda (Indian Ridge), daughter of the high class Royal Touch (Ire) (Tap on
Wood) and 34,000 for Haras de la
Herbourgere’s Hip 935, a son of Shamardal out Legendary (Fabulous Dancer), a
half-sister to 2002 champion turf mare Golden Apples (Ire) (Pivotal). That price
was matched by trainer Xavier Nakkachdji for the session’s top-priced filly from
the draft of Grove Stud. Hip 967 is a Hawk Wing half-sister to the talented duo
of Miss Lips (Big Shuffle) and Les Fazzani (Intikhab), who was third in the
Premio Lydia Tesio (Ity-G1) and successful in last week’s Wild Flower S.

At the end of the sale, the average of 7,321
was down by three percent on 2008, but the median followed the trend of the
weekend by rising by 12 percent.
