Joel Rosario equaled the Hollywood Park record originally set by the great
Bill Shoemaker in 1953 with six wins on a soggy afternoon Friday at the “Track
of Lakes and Flowers.”
Rosario, a 24-year-old native of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic,
connected with his six remaining mounts after finishing second in the first race
on the eight-race program. Cadillac (NZ) (Bahhare), his scheduled mount in the
7TH race, was scratched Friday morning.
Rosario won five consecutive races, sat out the 7TH, and then rode
eighth-race winner Stockings (Hennessy) to stretch his personal streak to six
straight victories. The six-pack boosted his total to 31 wins through 21 days of
the 27-day autumn meet. He leads the standings by eight wins over Rafael
Bejarano.

“The first time I do this in my life,” Rosario said. “I won five before and
was second and third, but now six, so I am very happy. I feel great, not many
jockeys do that, so I am very happy for this.

“I always like my horses,” he added. “You ride your horses, I don’t care if
they are 99-1 or even money, we have a chance to win.”
Rosario’s wins came on Pick to Click (El Corredor) ($6.80), Yankee Romance
(Yankee Gentleman) ($2.60), Madeline Ruby (Yankee Gentleman) ($6.40), A Clever
Ten ($5.40) (Decarchy), Free Lunch (Cee’s Tizzy) ($3.20) and Stockings ($3.40).
He rode each winner in the Pick Six with the exception of Hunch (Lion Heart) in
the 7TH race. With more than 1,000 perfect tickets, the Pick Six payoff was
a mere $80.80.
Shoemaker set the Hollywood Park record of six wins with eight mounts on June
20, 1953, and also clicked with six of seven mounts on June 24, 1970. Laffit
Pincay Jr. rode six winners with nine mounts on April 27, 1968, and Kent
Desormeaux rode six winners with 10 mounts on July 3, 1992.

Rosario twice rode five winners at the 2009 spring/summer meet, while
Bejarano did so once while setting a Hollywood Park record for stakes wins on a
program as his five came on Gold Rush Day when all races are stakes.
