RNB Racing LLC’s SHADOWBDANCING (Montbrook) dueled with pacesetter Racing
Bran (Awesome Again) in the stretch of Saturday night’s $300,000
Cornhusker H. (G2) at Prairie Meadows and edged clear to be a length winner
on the line under jockey Eusebio Razo Jr. Sent off the 10-1 fifth choice in the
nine-horse field, the Terrel Gore-trained five-year-old paid $22.80, $8.80 and
$6 while keying the $150.60 exacta, $3,454.80 trifecta and $16,824.80 superfecta
(9-4-7-3).
Racing Bran set the early pace in the nine-furlong test, posting splits of
:23 3/5, :47 3/5 and 1:11 3/5 while pressed by King Dan (Include).
Shadowbdancing was stalking just on the outside and gradually made up ground on
the backstretch. The dark bay drew even with Racing Bran entering the stretch,
and the pair battled it out in the lane, with Shadowbdancing gradually drawing
off to stop the teletimer in 1:48 1/5 on the fast dirt.
Racing Bran, the 8-1 fourth choice, was worth $9.60 and $7.20 for holding a
rallying Golden Yank (Yankee Gentleman) to third by three parts of a length.
Show gave back $15.40 as the 23-1 longest shot on the board. Mythical Power
(Congaree), the 3-2 favorite, King Dan, Red Lead (Red Bullet), Going Ballistic
(Lite the Fuse), Brass Hat (Prized) and Slew’s Tizzy (Tiznow) rounded out the
order under the wire.
Shadowbdancing avenged his runner-up loss in this event last year when adding
this first graded score to his line and now boasts eight total stakes victories.
The five-year-old has also captured the Bosselman/Gus Fonner S. and
Cryptoclearance this season and run second in the Jim Rasmussen Memorial S. He
improved his career line to 24-10-5-3 and boosted his earnings to $622,495.
Bred in Florida by Ocala Stud Farm, Shadowbdancing sold for $200,000 as an
OBS February Selected two-year-old. He is out of the unraced Deputy’s Mistress
(Deputy Minister), making him a half-brother to Grade 3 runner-up
Throwthebookatem (Notebook) and stakes victress Backatem (Notebook). A pair of
half-sisters to Deputy’s Mistress are responsible for producing last year’s
Thousand Guineas (Aus-G1) winner Irish Lights (Fastnet Rock) and Group 2 heroine
Italia (Stravinsky).
Farther back in this female line one can find champion sires Cozzene and
Timber Country (Woodman); Broodmare of the Year Fall Aspen (Pretense);
highweight stallions Bianconi (Danzig), Charnwood Forest (Ire) (Warning [GB])
and Elnadim (Danzig); and UAE Horse of the Year Dubai Millennium (Seeking the
Gold).
