Mr. Greeley euthanized due to laminitis

Last updated: 11/30/10 3:40 PM

Gainesway Farm has announced the death of MR. GREELEY (Gone West). The
18-year-old stallion was diagnosed with laminitis several weeks ago, but his
condition recently had deteriorated and the decision was made to euthanize him
on Tuesday.

“All of us at Gainesway are saddened at the lost of a great stallion,” said
Antony Beck, President of Gainesway. “He was not only a great stallion, but a
great horse.”

On the racetrack, Mr. Greeley was a winner at two, but he showed
extraordinary consistency at three, winning the Lafayette S. (G3), Swale S.
(G3), and Spectacular Bid S. (G3), and placing in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1),
Jerome H. (G2), Hutchison S. (G2), and Riva Ridge S. (G3). He retired at the end
of his three-year-old campaign with a career record of 16-5-6-0, $474,452.

As a stallion, Mr. Greeley has been represented by such Grade 1-winning colts
(and now sires) as El Corredor and Whywhywhy, but his daughters also have proven
to be truly extraordinary. Those remarkable fillies have been led by European
champion Finsceal Beo, who accounted for the Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-G1)
and English One Thousand Guineas (Eng-G1) on her way to seven graded stakes wins
and placings.

Other Grade or Group 1 winners sired by Mr. Greeley include Nonsuch Bay, Reel
Buddy, Celtic Melody and Miss Kournikova.

To date, Mr. Greeley has sired 53 worldwide stakes winners, including the
2010 Grade/Group 2-winning fillies Aruna and Laughing Lashes. His offspring have
included 22 graded winners and earners of more than $50 million. In 2010, his
final year in the stud, Mr. Greeley covered 128 mares, with 86 percent of those
mares reported to have conceived.

Mr. Greeley will be buried at Gainesway.
