Canadian champion TOO LATE NOW (Raj Waki) was sold to Jim Stone for the top
price of $50,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Texas December Mixed Sale at Lone Star Park
on Monday. Consigned by Inside Move Inc., agent, as Hip No. 55, the 10-year-old
mare was listed as not in foal.
Too Late Now won her first four career starts, including the Selene S.
(Can-G1) and Woodbine Oaks. She lost her unbeaten status when third in the Bison
City S., but had done enough to garner a Sovereign Award as Canada’s champion
three-year-old filly of 2003.
Retired with a mark of 7-4-0-1, $566,110, Too Late Now has produced two foals
of racing age, both winners in Canada. Too Late Now is out of the unraced Ten
Gold Pots mare Half of Everything, and her third dam is Del Mar Debutante S.
(G2) winner Extravagant (Vitriolic).
The one-day sale witnessed double-digit increases in both gross and average.
On Monday, 76 horses brought a total of $307,900, a 25.5 percent spike from the
$245,300 realized by 74 head a year ago. The average jumped 22.2 percent, from
$3,315 to $4,051. The $1,900 median, however, told a different story, plunging
24 percent from the $2,500 recorded in 2009.
