Owned by Eric Fein and Vic Carlson and trained by Derek Ryan, Musket Man
became a top contender for the 2009 Kentucky Derby (G1) with victories in
the Illinois Derby (G2), Tampa Bay Derby and Pasco S. He was third in both the
Derby and Preakness (G1), and recorded a pair of runner-up efforts in the
Metropolitan H. (G1) and Carter H. (G1) as a four-year-old. He also captured the
Super S. and finished third in the Whitney H. (G1) last season, and concluded
his racing career with an eighth in the November 27 Cigar Mile H. (G1) at
Aqueduct.
A model of consistency, Musket Man won at four distances from six furlongs to
1 1/8 miles at ages two through four.
The dark bay is by Grade 1 winner Yonaguska, from the sire line of champion
sprinter Cherokee Run. Out of the stakes-placed Fortunate Prospect mare
Fortuesque, Musket Man is from the same female family as champion two-year-old
and successful sire Silent Screen.
Musket Man is available for inspection now as well as at Vinery’s upcoming
Open House on February 11th. For more information, contact Declan Doyle at
