A pair of colts brought top honors at the second session of the Inglis Sydney
Classic Yearling Sale Monday. The magic number yesterday was A$130,000, the
final price realized by Lot No. 183 — a son of Fastnet Rock (Aus) — and Lot
229, a colt by General Nediym.
The former, offered by Brooklyn Lodge, agent, was purchased by Hawkes Racing.
The bay is the sixth foal out of Razzia (Scenic [Ire]), a full-sister to
Australian three-year-old champion Universal Prince and Group 1 heroine
Universal Queen. Also paying top price Monday was Bert Veira, who secured the
Edinglassie Stud offering son of General Nediym out of Shannon Wood (Woodman).
The13-year-old unraced mare — who is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner
Sharscay (Marscay) — is already responsible for the Group 3-placed Road to
Athens (Redoute’s Choice) and Group 1-placed Miss Lily Rose (Red Ransom).
A new mark for a filly was established at this year’s sale when Les Bridge
gave A$120,000 for a filly by Excellent Art (GB). Out of Group 3 winner Starry
Way (Danehill), Lot 268 is a half-sister to multiple winner Butten Shaw (Peintre
Celebre). Consigned by Wimmera Park Stud, acting on behalf of Hillgrove Stud,
the November 8 foal is a granddaughter of Group 1 heroine Starline (*Sir
Tristram).
The final yearling to reach the six-figure mark Monday was Lot 369, a colt by
Not a Single Doubt. Offered from the draft of Bell River Thoroughbreds, the son
of Arthur’s Lass (Unduplicated) brought a A$100,000 final bid from R Barry of
New South Wales.
“Once again, there was very good competition from a diverse buying bench,
which saw the clearance rate exceed 80 percent,” Inglis Bloodstock Director
Jonathan D Arcy said. “It has been a very even sale for both buyers and vendors
so far with the figures slightly up on last year, which is pleasing given the
catalog is 10 percent larger.”
