Jenny Craig announced Thursday that Lane’s End Farm and Martin Wygod
have purchased an interest in TWIRLING CANDY (Candy Ride [Arg]), who
scorched seven furlongs in 1:19.70 in the December 26 Malibu S. (G1) to
break the old dirt track record of 1:20 established by the immortal
Spectacular Bid almost 31 years ago to the day.

Twirling Candy has won six of his seven starts, including four stakes
victories, on all surfaces. As a two-year-old, he won his only start at
Hollywood Park over the Cushion Track. The dark bay returned at three to
capture his first three races, including the Del Mar Derby (G2) and
Oceanside S., both on the turf.

The John Sadler charge suffered his first loss when fourth in the
Goodwood S. (G1) during the Oak Tree meet at Hollywood, and was given a
two-month freshening. Twirling Candy returned better than ever to break
Spectacular Bid’s record in the Malibu, ending his sophomore campaign on
a definite high note. In his only start this year, the four-year-old
romped by 4 1/2 lengths in the Strub S. (G2) on February 5.

Bred by Sidney H. and Jenny Craig, Twirling Candy races for the Craig
Family Trust and is scheduled to make his next start in the Santa Anita
H. (G1) on March 5.

Twirling Candy is the first registered foal out of House of Danzing
(Chester House), who has since produced two full siblings to her
talented first born — an unraced juvenile filly named Dulcito and a
yearling colt named Treasure Ride — as well as a weanling colt by
Tribal Rule. This is the same female family as two-time Horse of the
Year Affirmed, the last Triple Crown winner.

“We look forward to his continued success on the race track and his next
career as an exciting new addition to the Lane’s End stallion roster,” Lane’s
End owner Will Farish said.

Twirling Candy will join his sire, Candy Ride, when he takes up stud duties
at Lane’s End near Versailles, Kentucky.
