With the $1 million Haskell Invitational (G1) once again leading the way,
Monmouth Park has announced its 2011 major summer stakes schedule, featuring 15
graded races worth $4.2 million in purses.
Set for July 31, the Haskell will headline New Jersey’s biggest day of racing
when eight stakes events will be contested, including the Oceanport S. (G3) and
the Matchmaker S. (G3).
Other highlights on the stakes calendar include the $750,000 United Nations
S. (G1) on July 2, the $250,000 Molly Pitcher S. (G2) on August 28 and the
$250,000 Philip H. Iselin S. (G3) on August 20. In total, the announced stakes
schedule includes 22 races worth nearly $5 million.
An overnight stakes schedule will be announced at a later date.
Monmouth Park’s 2011 racing calendar has yet to be finalized by the New
Jersey Racing Commission, but opening day is set for May 14. A purse subsidy
from Atlantic City casinos, which allowed daily purses to average nearly
$800,000 in 2010, will not be available this year.
Stall applications for the 2011 season, available at
www.monmouthpark.com, are due in the
Monmouth Park Racing Secretary’s office by March 16.
