Two fillies tied for the fastest quarter-mile work Friday at the first Under
Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in
Training in Ocala, Florida. The session was postponed from Thursday due to
inclement weather and featured Hip No.’s 1-244 as well as Hips 246, 297, 298 and
426.
Hip 56, a filly from the first crop of Malibu S. (G1) winner Latent Heat, was
the first to be clocked in :21 1/5. Produced from the winning Great Deep Bay
(Mr. Greeley), the February 27-foaled filly hails from the family of multiple
Grade 1-winning producer Stop Traffic (Cure the Blues) and multiple Grade 3
winner Gouldings Green (Charismatic). She is being offered by Wavertree Stables
(Ciaran Dunne), agent.
A Forest Wildcat filly offered by Eisaman Equine, agent, also went in :21
1/5. Hip 182, foaled on April 3, was produced by Nyanza (Montbrook), a
half-sister to multiple stakes winner Sweet Nanette (You and I), the dam of
current undefeated sophomore stakes winner Sherriff Cogburn (Vindication). The
juvenile’s third dam is Grade 3 winner Sweet Saree (Torsion).
The fastest one-furlong clocking was achieved by a colt from the first crop
of multiple Grade 1 winner Scat Daddy. Offered by Old South Farm, agent, Hip 137
completed his trial in :9 4/5. The March 2-foaled juvenile is out of Madagascat
(Tale of the Cat), a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Lindsay Jean (Saint Ballado).
The colt’s third dam was Oceana (Northern Dancer), a full sister to English and
Irish juvenile champion and noted sire Storm Bird, as well as multiple Canadian
champion Northernette.
The Under Tack Show concludes Saturday when Hips 245-490 take to the track
beginning at 8 a.m. (ET).
The March Sale is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday with each session
beginning at 11 a.m. The Day of Champions Races will be run on Monday with first
post time at 1:00 p.m.
