Champion UNCLE MO (Indian Charlie) posted an easy win while making his
sophomore bow in Saturday’s Timely Writer S. at Gulfstream Park, and on Sunday
turned that into 3-1 favoritism in Pool 2 of Churchill Downs’ Kentucky Derby
Future Wager (KDFW).
The Todd Pletcher trainee closed as the 7-2 second choice, but the favorite
among individual betting interests, when Pool 1 closed on February 20. The
mutuel field, or “All Others” betting interest, was favored by handicappers in
Pool 1 at 3-1, but on Sunday was the solid second choice at 7-2 when wagering
closed.
No other interest was bet down to single-digit odds, with DIALED IN
(Mineshaft) holding the third spot at 11-1. The Holy Bull S. (G3)
winner, who finished second to older stablemate Equestrio (Elusive Quality) in
an optional claiming test last Sunday, was also the third choice in the first
pool at 8-1.
Fountain of Youth S. (G2) victor SOLDAT (War Front) came next in the betting
at 13-1, while Remsen S. (G2) and Nashua S. (G2) hero TO HONOR AND SERVE
(Bernardini), third in the Fountain of Youth in his sophomore bow, was listed at
14-1 when the wagering closed. Grade 1 winner JAYCITO (Victory Gallop), a
distant second in Saturday’s San Felipe S. (G2), and new wagering interest SWAY
AWAY (Afleet Alex), runner-up in the San Vicente S. (G2) most recently, were the
only other choices that closed at less than 20-1 when going for 16-1 and 18-1,
respectively.
The Kentucky Derby Future Wager provides fans with opportunities to wager on
potential contenders for the 137th Kentucky Derby at odds that could be much
more attractive than those available on race day. It offers win and exacta
wagering, and all bets are $2 minimum wagers. No refunds will be made on any
wager made during a KDFW pool. If it is determined during any pool that an
individual horse has suffered an illness, injury or other circumstance that
would prevent the betting interest from competing in Kentucky Derby, wagering on
the horse will be suspended immediately.
One more Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool will be conducted before the 137th
running of the Kentucky Derby on May 7. The final pool of 2011 will run from
