First winner for Scat Daddy

Last updated: 5/27/11 8:22 PM

Dual Grade 1 victor SCAT DADDY (Johannesburg) was represented by his first
winner as a sire on Friday when Little Miss Muffet captured the 9TH race at
Churchill Downs in front-running fashion. With Shaun Bridgmohan aboard, the Tom
Amoss pupil carved out fractions of :22 3/5 and :46 before finishing the
five-furlong, fast track test in :58 1/5. The dark bay juvenile miss was three
parts of a length clear of her closest pursuer while making her career bow in
this spot.

Scat Daddy also won in his initial start, taking a maiden special weight at
Belmont Park in June 2006 by 5 1/4 lengths. Trainer Todd Pletcher immediately
stepped his charge up and the dark bay colt responded with a neck score in the
Sanford S. (G2) at Saratoga. Scat Daddy suffered his first loss when second in
the Hopeful S. (G1) but rebounded with a nice win in the Champagne S. (G1) next
out. He closed out his juvenile season with a fourth-place run in the Breeders’
Cup Juvenile (G1).

Scat Daddy only made four other starts, with those coming in his sophomore
campaign. He opened 2007 with a third in the Holy Bull S. (G3), then solidified
his Triple Crown aspirations with wins in the Fountain of Youth S. (G2) and
Florida Derby (G1). The colt turned in a dull performance in the Kentucky Derby
(G1), finishing a well-beaten 18th, and it was discovered a month later that he
had suffered a slight tendon injury during the Run for the Roses. He retired
with a 9-5-1-1 career mark having banked $1,334,300 lifetime.

The Kentucky-bred is out of the unraced Mr. Prospector mare Love Style,
making him a half-brother to dual stakes-placed Grand Daddy (Johannesburg). His
dam is herself a daughter of Grade 1 winner Likeable Style (Nijinsky II), and
this is the same family as last year’s Garden City S. (G1) victress Check the
Label (Stormin Fever), Grade 1 queen Sweet Talker (Stormin Fever) and multiple
Grade 1-placed stakes heroine Personable Lady (No Robbery).

Scat Daddy stands for a live foal fee of $10,000 at Ashford Stud near
Versailles, Kentucky.
