Pirate’s Booty announces sponsorship of Uncle Mo, Stay
Thirsty
Pirate’s Booty, leader and manufacturer of all-natural snacks, is pleased to
announce its sponsorship of Grade 1 Kentucky Derby contenders Uncle Mo and Stay
Thirsty.
As part of the partnership, the Pirate’s Booty logo will be displayed on
jockeys John Velazquez (Uncle Mo) and Ramon Dominguez (Stay Thirsty) during the
running of the 137th Kentucky Derby. The Derby takes place at Churchill Downs on
Saturday and will be televised live on NBC.
Mike Repole, owner of two-year-old champion Uncle Mo and Grade 3 Gotham
winner Stay Thirsty, who are both trained by Todd Pletcher, has always dreamed
of having a horse in the Kentucky Derby and now he has two in the 20 horse field
in “The Run for the Roses.”
Repole joined forces with all-natural snack company Pirate’s Booty as
chairman of the board and largest individual shareholder in 2008. Since
partnering with Pirate’s Booty, sales have skyrocketed from $50 million to $100
million in two years with the five-year goal of $500 million.
Pirate’s Booty is a baked, all-natural snack made from puffed rice and corn
that is also trans-fat and gluten free with only 130 calories for a 1 oz.
serving.
“Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty were my Derby exacta, but now with Pirate’s Booty
onboard as the sponsor for both horses, we now have the perfect trifecta, as all
three are winners in their own right,” Repole stated.
“We, at Pirate’s Booty, are excited for millions of viewers to experience the
Pirate’s Booty brand in such a high-profile and fun way on two outstanding
horses,” said Eric Berniker, Pirate’s Booty’s vice president of marketing. “The
Kentucky Derby epitomizes the fun traditions that we all love to celebrate and
this year we’re hoping to start a new one — Mint Juleps, Kentucky Hot Browns
and Pirate’s Booty!”
