TWO PUNCH (Mr. Prospector), one of the most important stallions to stand in
Maryland over the last quarter-century, was humanely destroyed on June 25 due to
infirmities of old age at Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City,
Maryland. He was 28.
“Two Punch had been an integral part of Northview Stallion Station since we
opened our doors in 1989,” said Richard Golden, Northview Stallion Station
co-owner and managing partner. “He sired an Eclipse Award winner, has become an
excellent broodmare sire and has had an auction record that was the best in the
region. And he remained popular to the end.”
A son of 1980 champion juvenile filly Heavenly Cause (*Grey Dawn II), Two
Punch was a stakes winner at three when he captured Oaklawn Park’s Bachelor S.,
getting six furlongs in 1:09 3/5. Two Punch won four of eight starts and also
placed third in the Swale S. at Gulfstream Park. He earned $89,795.
Two Punch has sired the earners of more than $49 million. His runners earned
in excess of $1 million every year from 1992 to 2010, and his 2011 earnings
exceed $700,000 through June 26. He is the sire of 54 stakes winners, include
Eclipse Award-winning sprinter and successful sire Smoke Glacken, Grade 1 winner
Taking Risks and multiple Grade 2 winner Punch Line.
Two Punch got his most recent stakes winner on June 11 when his
three-year-old daughter Bold Affair captured the $200,000 Jostle S. at Parx
Racing, her third win in four starts.
As a broodmare sire, Two Punch daughters have produced an exceptionally
diverse group of top-class runners, including two-time Eclipse Award-winning
steeplechaser Good Night Shirt (Concern), multiple Grade 1-winning sprinter
Shine Again (Wild Again), and recent Hutcheson S. (G2) winner Flashpoint
(Pomeroy).
