Khaled dispersal to take place at Keeneland

Last updated: 7/14/11 7:41 PM

The estate of the late Prince Saud bin Khaled, represented most recently by
Black-Eyed Susan S. (G2) winner Royal Delta (Empire Maker), will completely disperse
its Thoroughbred broodmares, weanlings and racing stock at Keeneland’s November
Breeding Stock Sale. The horses will be offered by Prince Saud’s Chanteclair
Farm, as agent. Yearlings will be dispersed through Lane’s End, agent, at the
September Yearling Sale.

The November Sale dispersal will include 17 mares in foal to such leading
sires as Tapit, Lemon Drop Kid and Smart Strike, highlighted by Royal Delta’s
dam, Delta Princess (A.P. Indy), in foal to Distorted Humor. Also cataloged will be 12
weanlings by such sires as Tapit, Street Sense and Lemon Drop Kid, including
Royal Delta’s half-sister by Smart Strike. Seven horses in training, led by
Royal Delta, will also be offered.

Eleven yearlings, representing such prominent
sires as Arch, Bernardini and Street Sense, are cataloged for September.

“Prince Saud achieved remarkable success from a very small but select
broodmare band,” Keeneland President & CEO Nick Nicholson said. “He was a
passionate horseman, and took immense pride in planning the matings of his mares
and campaigning his homebreds. We enjoyed his visits to Keeneland. He liked
attending the races here.”

Khaled was proud of the team he assembled at Chanteclair, who described
him as kind and compassionate.

“Mr. Khaled was one of the most sincere and most thoughtful people I have
ever worked for,” said Ron Wallace, president of Chanteclair Farm. “His mares
have consistently produced, but this is the year they have really begun to peak
as a group. It is bittersweet to know Mr. Khaled is not here to share in the
continued success of his horses, but the finality of watching them go through
the sale ring will be the hardest part for all of us at the farm.”

A native of Saudi Arabia, Khaled conducted his Thoroughbred racing and
breeding operation under the name Palides Investments N.V Inc., which he began
in 1984 with the purchase of six horses. He established his 260-acre Chanteclair
Farm near Midway, Kentucky, in 1995.

Khaled bred 30 stakes horses from 137 starters foaled at the farm, led
by last year’s Gran Criterium (Ity-G1) conqueror Biondetti (Bernardini); 2003 Hollywood Turf Cup (G1)
winner Continuously (Diesis [GB]); 1999 Mother Goose (G1) victress Dreams Gallore
(Silver Ghost); 2003 Garden
City Breeders’ Cup (G1) heroine Indy Five Hundred (A.P. Indy); and 2007 Gazelle (G1)
scorer Lear’s Princess (Lear Fan).

In partnership with Karen Woods, he bred and raced 2008
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Maram (Sahm).
