While Queen’s Plate heroine Inglorious (Hennessy) has opted to skip Sunday’s
C$500,000

Prince of Wales S.
in favor of the Alabama S. (G1) at Saratoga on August 20,
the second, third and fourth-place finishers from the first jewel of the
Canadian Triple Crown have chosen to go for classic glory at Fort Erie.

The second leg of the series, the 1 3/16-mile Prince of Wales, has attracted
a field of seven and HIPPOLYTUS (Philanthropist) is looking to prove his
runner-up finish in the Queen’s Plate was no fluke. The Mark Casse charge was
sent off at 61-1 that day, but should garner more attention this time around.
Fourth in the Plate Trial S. two back, the dark bay gelding will keep Tyler
Pizarro aboard for Sunday’s race.

Like Hippolytus, PENDER HARBOUR (Philanthropist) was sent off at long odds
(15-1) in the Queen’s Plate but managed to take third by a nose over BOWMAN’S
CAUSEWAY (Giant’s Causeway). Hero of last year’s Kingarvie S., in which
Hippolytus ran second, the three-year-old will trying a conventional dirt track
for the first time in the Prince of Wales.

Bowman’s Causeway, on the other hand, opened his career at Monmouth Park
before breaking his maiden at Gulfstream Park. The chestnut ran fourth in the
Fountain of Youth S. (G2) at that venue, but held his own to be second in the
Plate Trial and fourth in the Queen’s Plate while trying the synthetic Polytrack
at Woodbine for the first time. He could relish the return to a dirt track in
this spot for trainer Chad Brown.

CHECK YOUR SOUL (Perfect Soul [Ire]), winner of the Plate Trial and Wando S.
prior to a tiring seventh in the Queen’s Plate as the 9-5 favorite, will be
looking for redemption in the Prince of Wales. The Roger Attfield pupil put in a
brief run rounding the turn, but immediately began backing up and really didn’t
factor in the 1 1/4-mile affair. He’ll try to return to his previous form with
Patrick Husbands staying in the saddle.

The only horse entered in the Prince of Wales with prior experience running
at Fort Erie is WELLOILEDMACHINE (Mobil). The Michael Keough-conditioned gelding
will be making his stakes bow in the race following a nice second against Fort
Erie allowance rivals on June 19.

Maiden OBAN (Pleasant Tap) and OH CANADA (Proud Citizen), 13th in the Queen’s
Plate following a triumph in the Woodstock S. and a pair of thirds in the
Queenston S. and Marine S., complete the field for the Prince of Wales.
