Trainer Ger Lyons Monday paid £15,000 to add the Round Tower S. (Ire-G3) winner
LIGHTENING PEARL (Marju) to Saturday’s Cheveley Park
S. (Eng-G1) at Newmarket. Successful by five lengths in that August 28 Curragh
contest, Pearl Bloodstock’s filly is one of 15 in the list for the £163,500
six-furlong highlight at Monday’s six-day stage.
Lightening Pearl had
previously finished third behind Maybe (Galileo [Ire]) in the Debutante
S. (Ire-G2), also at the Curragh August 7.
“Lightening Pearl is grand at the moment,” Lyons said, “and we are going to
have a go at a Group 1 with her. As
far as I am concerned, the best juvenile that we have seen this season is Maybe,
and we were unlucky not to be second behind her in the Debutante S.
“Our filly stepped up on that with a good performance in the Round Tower S., and I
didn’t want to take on Maybe again. She gets seven furlongs and a mile, but she
has shown enough speed for six furlongs, so the Jaguar Cars Cheveley Park S.
seemed the obvious race for her. I wouldn’t want the going too quick, but she
goes on most ground — she’s only a small, light filly. Good ground would be
lovely, but she will be fine as long as it is not heavy or firm.”
Robert
Barnett’s unbeaten BEST TERMS (Exceed and Excel) heads the entries, and the June
15 Queen Mary S. (Eng-G2) and August 18 Lowther S. (Eng-G2) scorer is the sole
representative of the Richard Hannon stable.
David Wachman has left in Michael
Tabor’s Lowther runner-up FIRE LILY (Dansili [GB]), who has subsequently
finished in the same spot behind Maybe in the Moyglare Stud S. (Ire-G1) at the Curragh
August 28, while Godolphin may rely on the July 8 Cherry Hinton S. (Eng-G2) heroine
GAMILATI (Bernardini) from the Mahmood al Zarooni stable and the Saeed bin
Suroor-trained DESERT GAZELLE (Smart Strike), who was fourth last time in the Sweet Solera S.
(Eng-G3) on the July Course at this venue August
6.
Another promising type is the Fawzi Abdulla Nass-owned
and Brian Meehan-trained SHUMOOS (Distorted Humor), who was most recently
successful in the Sirenia S. (Eng-G3) at Kempton September 3, while Sheikh Hamdan bin
Rashid al Maktoum’s September 1 listed Dick Poole S. winner SAJWAH (Exceed and
Excel) is one of a duo from the Charlie Hills barn alongside the July 23
Princess Margaret S. (Eng-G3) scorer ANGELS WILL FALL (Acclamation).
