Nominations are now open for the eight stakes races on the 2011 Delta Downs
Jackpot Day program scheduled for November 19. The Vinton, Louisiana, track will
offer nearly $2.2 million in purses during this year’s program.
The centerpiece is the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot (G3) for
two-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles, which offers graded stakes earnings toward a
guaranteed starting position in the 2012 Kentucky Derby (G1).
This year’s Jackpot Day card will also feature one of the nation’s richest
races for two-year-old fillies, the $500,000 Princess (G3) at one mile. Two additional one-mile stakes races are also scheduled: the $125,000 Delta Mile
for three-year-olds and up and the $125,000 Treasure Chest for fillies and
mares.
Two one-mile races for Louisiana-bred juveniles are on the card as well: the
$150,000 Louisiana Legacy for colts and geldings and the $125,000 Louisiana
Jewel for fillies. Rounding out the card are two seven-furlong races: the
$60,000 Orleans for three-year-old fillies and the $60,000 Sam’s Town for
three-year-olds.
“We are extremely excited about the 2011 Delta Downs Jackpot card,” said
Steve Kuypers, vice president and general manager of Delta Downs. “Last year’s
card produced an all-time record handle. We look forward to even greater success
this year, with a race card featuring quality horses from across the country.”
