The most experienced colt in Saturday’s $106,500
Sapling
S. (G3)
proved to be a most decisive winner of the historic six-furlong test at Monmouth Park. Kirk and
Judy Robison’s SHE DIGS ME (Henny Hughes), who had previously won the Tyro S.
over the same track, made it a clean sweep of Monmouth’s most important juvenile
events in posting a 6 1/4-length triumph under Elvis Trujillo. The 4-1 third
choice in a field of 10, She Digs Me returned $10.60, $5.20 and $4.20.

Breaking from an outside post, She Digs Me stayed in the middle of the track
down the backside. Though seventh as even-money favorite and uncoupled
stablemate Voodoo Daddy (City Zip) ripped an opening quarter in :22, She Digs Me
was only two lengths off that leader in a tightly compact group. Making a strong
four-wide move around the turn as Voodoo Daddy continued to duel through a half
in :45, She Digs Me was going best as the field entered the stretch and the colt
drew off in a powerful display. Final time on the fast main track was 1:10 2/5.

There was a dead heat for second between Jagati (Yes It’s True) and
Black Rhino (El Corredor), who were 18-1 and 13-1 respectively. Two
lengths further back was Managed Account (Malibu Moon), who was followed
by Sum of the Parts (Speightstown), Scallion (Lion Heart), High Heat
(Latent Heat), Voodoo Daddy, Deliburnsky (Flatter) and Space Traveler
(Malibu Moon). Love Those Boots (Love of Money) was scratched.

Eighth of nine after a poor start in his Keeneland debut, She Digs Me next
finished second by a length to Power World (Distorted Humor) in his dirt bow at
Churchill Downs. Power World went on to finish second in the Bashford Manor S.
(G3) and Sanford S. (G2). Near the conclusion of the Churchill meet, She Digs Me
prevailed over maiden foes by a nose, then shipped to Monmouth for the summer
where he captured the July 24 Tyro by two lengths going away. His record now
stands at 5-3-1-0, $148,670.

Bred in Kentucky by Mike Rutherford, She Digs Me was a $50,000 Keeneland
September yearling. He’s the first foal from the stakes-winning Stage Stop
(Valid Expectations), who has also produced a yearling colt by Midnight Lute and
a weanling filly by Street Boss.
