Eclipse goes to Thoroughbred Times

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), Daily Racing Form
and the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters (NTWAB) announced Thursday that
the Thoroughbred Times web site,
Thoroughbredtimes.com,
has won the 2011 Media Eclipse Award in the Audio/Multi-Media Internet category
for its “Breeders’ Cup – On the Scene” coverage of this year’s Breeders’ Cup
World Championships at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

In support of its up to date news items, feature profiles and statistical
information, Thoroughbredtimes.com utilized daily “On the Scene” videos
containing interviews with the major trainers, owners and jockeys participating
in the Breeders’ Cup on the backstretch, and following both days of the
Championships to enhance its multi-media platform.

“On the Scene” was a collaborative multi-media project led by Thoroughbred
Times Multimedia Manager Greg Charkoudian, who serves as director and
co-producer of the series, and Tom Law, Thoroughbred Times Managing Editor who
serves as host, analyst, and co-producer.

“It’s an honor to receive the Eclipse Award for our coverage of the 2011
Breeders’ Cup,” Law said. “The media world is changing and Greg and I decided
this year that we would launch ‘On the Scene’ this year with a goal of
complementing our print and online coverage with video and multimedia elements
that not only inform our readers but keep them entertained.

“The Breeders’ Cup was our second ‘On the Scene’ series after launching it
with coverage of the Keeneland September yearling sale. Greg and I thought after
the September sale that the Breeders’ Cup was the perfect stage for ‘On the
Scene.’ As other journalists know, covering the Breeders’ Cup is difficult
because of the large number of horses to follow and trainers, jockeys, and
owners to interview. ‘On the Scene’ tries to tell the stories of the Breeders’
Cup through the voices of the participants and we were very fortunate that so
many were so giving of their time.”

Honorable mention in the Audio/Multi-Media Internet category went to Sirius
XM Radio, “At the Races” for its live Breeders’ Cup preview coverage on November
2. Steve Byk was the producer.

Judges for the Audio/Multi-Media Internet category were: Bob Ike, radio
commentator of “Thoroughbred Los Angeles” with Jay Privman; Mike Farrell of The
Associated Press; and Joe Withee, Director of Broadcast Publicity at Emerald
Downs.
