Majestic Warrior’s first winner conquers at Calder

Last updated: 6/24/12 6:09 PM

Grade 1 hero Majestic Warrior was represented by his first winner as a sire
when Weekend Warrior scored in Sunday’s

8TH
race at Calder. Owned and trained by Jose Pinchin, the 3-5 favorite
forced the pace, struck the front, and held by three-quarters of a length in the
maiden special weight. Weekend Warrior splashed 5 1/2 furlongs on the sloppy,
sealed track in 1:07 1/5 with Luis Saez in the saddle.

Bred by Sun Valley Farm and Thumrong Wattanapisit in Kentucky, the dark bay
filly went to Pinchin for $15,500 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Weekend Warrior, who was produced by the Cat Thief mare Chic Thief, placed in
her first two starts before her Sunday breakthrough.

Majestic Warrior showed exceptional precocity for a son of A.P. Indy, and
likely inherited the one-turn proficiency of his dam, multiple Grade 1-winning
millionaire Dream Supreme. A debut winner sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs at Saratoga,
Majestic Warrior came right back to take the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes. He exited a
disappointing sixth in the Grade 1 Champagne with a hoof injury and was never
the same thereafter, ultimately retiring with a 7-2-0-0 record and $239,229 in
earnings.

Dream Supreme, a daughter of Seeking the Gold, was also a star at the Spa,
where she captured the Grade 1 Test and Grade 1 Ballerina Handicap and equaled
the 5 1/2-furlong track record as a juvenile. Her other career highlights
include victories in the Grade 2 Distaff Handicap, Grade 2 Humana Distaff
Handicap, Grade 3 Princess Rooney Handicap and Grade 3 Gallant Bloom Handicap.

As a broodmare, Dream Supreme is responsible for two other stakes winners —
Evolutionist, who is also Grade 3-placed, and Crystal Current, a full sister to
Majestic Warrior.

Dream Supreme is out of another Ballerina winner in Spinning Round, heroine
of such other major races as the Grade 2 Alcibiades, Grade 2 Forward Gal and
Grade 3 Vagrancy Handicap.

The seven-year-old Majestic Warrior stands at Ashford Stud near Versailles,
Kentucky, for a fee of $10,000.
