Kitty in a Tizzy scores in Chicago 'Cap
William L. Clifton Jr.'s Kitty in a Tizzy rallied three wide rounding the turn to reach contention with the leaders in Saturday's Grade 3, $150,000 Chicago Handicap before eventually taking command and scoring by a length on the wire. Trained by H. James Bond and ridden by Francisco Torres, the five-year-old daughter of Tiznow was sent off the near 5-1 fourth pick and returned $11.80, $4.40 and $3.20 for finishing seven furlongs on Arlington Park's Polytrack in 1:23 2/5. "She's a Polytrack specialist," said Kevin Bond, who saddled the winner for his father. "We were kind of hoping for the right condition. It opened up here and here we came." "This filly was on the girth all the way around there," Torres said. "When I eased her out turning for home with those two (Honey Chile and Lady Chesterfield) in front of me who were going pretty decent fractions, it was just a matter of when I was going to push the button on her. The race developed well and it paid off."

Near 2-1 favorite Maude S and Ariana D both came running from the rear of the
field, with the former taking second by 1 1/2 lengths over her 5-2 second choice
rival. Pacesetter Honey Chile filled out the fourth spot after coming up empty
in the lane following splits of :22 3/5, :44 4/5 and 1:09 4/5. Lady
Chesterfield, Hemera, Dontbeshy I'll Buy and Lunar Mist completed the order
under the wire after Brilliant Future was scratched.
Kitty in a Tizzy finally earned a first stakes win in this spot having
previously posted a pair of runner-up efforts in the Group 3 Selene Stakes and
Duchess Stakes in 2010 at Woodbine. The five-year-old closed out her sophomore
campaign with a close fourth in the Grade 2 Raven Run Stakes, but only raced
thrice last season, all resulting in unplaced efforts.
Kitty in a Tizzy returned on April 22 at Woodbine and recorded a closing
fourth in the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes. Her career mark now stands at 16-3-2-1
and she's banked $265,783 in lifetime earnings.
Bred in Kentucky by Dr. Stephen and Debbie Jackson & TNT Stud, Kitty in a
Tizzy has now earned back her $260,000 purchase price as a Keeneland September
yearling. The bay mare is the only stakes winner out of the unraced Storm Cat
mare Puma Kitten, who is herself a daughter of Argentinian champion and U.S.
Grade 1 scorer Potridee. That Potrillazo mare is also the granddam of dual Grade
3 victor Endorsement and Mexican champion Vistosa.
This blue-blooded Argentinian female family is also responsible stateside for
multiple Grade 2 veteran T. H. Approval and Grade 3 heroine Melhor Ainda.
