Patricia Generazio’s Tune Me In pulled off a massive upset Sunday in the
Grade 3, $152,500
Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth Park, holding off rivals Queen’splatekitten and
Get Serious to score his first stakes victory by a half-length as the 25-1
longest shot on the board.

The Bruce Alexander trainee started out in front, hitting the opening quarter
in :25 4/5, then gave way for Get Serious, who led through the half in :50 and
six furlong at 1:13 3/5. Tune Me In regained the lead at the six-furlong mark in 1:13
3/5 and never looked back, finishing the 1 1/16-mile contest in 1:43 1/5 over
Monmouth’s firm turf.

Jockey Paco Lopez was up to guide the five-year-old son of Concorde’s
Tune to his first career stakes victory, returning $53.60, $13.20 and $4.60 to
his few but faithful backers.

“I knew no one wanted to go with Get Serious, so we did,”
Alexander said. “The whole race was won when they went (fractions of) :25 and
:50. He’s a good horse, and he showed it today.”

Queen’splatekitten made a late charge to take second by a neck over Get Serious,
who held for third. Admiral Perry, Magnifi Cat, Roman Tiger and Crepuscolo rounded out
the order of finish, while Glass Art was scratched.

Tune Me In made his first start of 2012 on June 10, finishing third in
the John McSorely Stakes at Monmouth, which was his only prior black-type credit.
He then ran seventh in an optional claimer at Belmont Park on July 5 before returning to
Monmouth to take the Oceanport Sunday. The victory boosted his earnings to
$289,845 and his lifetime record now stands at 20-4-7-4.

Bred in Florida by Joseph and Helen Barbazon, Tune Me In is out of the
winning Court Trial mare Pleasant Courtney, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Bet the
Sights and Joe’s Lad. His second dam is stakes-placed scorer Sightseeing while
his third dam, Window Card, produced multiple stakes hero Billy the Best.

Others of note in this female family include Grade 1 queen Colstar and
Group/Grade 2 conquerors Montjoy and Wesley.
