Due to the impending approach of Tropical Storm Isaac, Calder has canceled
its live Thoroughbred horse racing program scheduled for Sunday.
“Our primary concern is for the safety of our horses and horsemen,” Vice
President and General Manager of Racing John Marshall said. “So even though a
direct hit from Tropical Storm Isaac is not currently expected, we decided it
was in the best interest of all parties to cancel Sunday’s races.”
Barring any change in course from Tropical Storm Isaac, which is forecast to
track west of Miami Gardens, Florida, Calder’s grandstand will remain open for
simulcast wagering and poker on Sunday and the casino will be in full operation.
The main track and training track will both be closed for training on Sunday
morning. The racing office, however, will be open as usual on Sunday and Monday
taking entries for future programs.
Live racing is expected to resume as scheduled on Thursday with a 12:55 p.m.
(EDT) first race post time.
