A March 27 colt from the first crop of multiple Grade 1 winner Colonel John
brought a final bid of $220,000 from trainer Wesley Ward at Tuesday’s selected
session of the 2012 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s August Yearling Sale. The
Florida-bred was consigned by Beth Bayer, agent, and toured the ring as Hip No.
114.

Produced by the unraced Bon Caro (Bon Point), the bay counts as half-sisters
the stakes-winning Glitter City (City Place) and the Grade 3-placed Wild Forest
Cat (D’wildcat). This is the family of multiple Grade 1 winner Jostle (Brocco).

The session topper previously sold for $40,000 as a weanling at Keeneland
November.

F.H.M.B went to $180,000 to secure ANGELUS (Empire Maker), a May 12-foaled
Kentucky-bred. Hip 45 was offered by Country Road Farm, agent.

Produced by the Grade 2-placed Redhead Riot (Top Account), the colt counts as
his fourth dam Queen’s Paradise (Summer Tan), whose offspring include 1978
champion three-year-old filly champion Tempest Queen (Graustark), Grade 2
winners Steal a Kiss (Graustark) and Love You by Heart (Nijinsky II), and Grade
3 winner Kid Russell (Topsider).

A January 14 colt by Majestic Warrior sold to Nick de Meric, agent, for
$150,000. Consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), agent,
the Florida-bred sported Hip 134.

The yearling was produced by Countrywishingwell (Country Pine), a full sister
to stakes winner Springinthecountry and Grade 2-placed Country Coast, and a
half-sibling to stakes winner Ms Well (Jolie’s Halo). Countrywishingwell has
already produced multiple stakes winner Calico Bay (Three Wonders).

This female line is responsible for Kentucky Derby winners Swaps (*Khaled)
and Iron Liege (Bull Lea).

At the conclusion of Tuesday’s trading, 127 yearlings had sold for
$5,684,000. This represented a 32.9 percent increase over last year when 114
head brought $4,278,000. The average rose 19.3 percent, from $37,526 to $44,756,
while the median was up 7.7 percent, from $32,500 to $35,000.

The sale continues Wednesday and Thursday with open sessions beginning at
