Colour Vision, Saddler’s Rock top Goodwood Cup

Last updated: 7/31/12 11:36 AM

A total of 10 runners have been declared for Thursday’s Group 2, £100,000
Goodwood Cup, run over two miles on the third day of Glorious Goodwood.

The runners are headed by Godolphin’s Colour Vision, who will carry a
four-pound penalty after his memorable Group 1 Gold Cup success at Royal Ascot
on June 21. He will clash again with John Oxx’s Saddler’s Rock, who was
three-quarters of a length behind Saeed bin Suroor’s four-year-old when third at
Ascot.

Godolphin will also be represented by last year’s runner-up Lost In the
Moment, while Irish champion jump trainer Willie Mullins is sending over Simenon,
who completed a rare double at Royal Ascot when winning the Ascot Handicap and
the Queen Alexandra Stakes.

John Gosden will saddle the consistent Nehaam, who finished sixth in the Gold
Cup, while Times Up will be looking to give local handler John Dunlop another
big race victory after two stakes successes last year.

Askar Tau, a dual Group 2 winner in 2010, will be looking to bounce back to
his best for Lambourn handler Marcus Tregoning, and Electrolyser will be seeking
to return to the form that saw him finish a close second in the 2010 renewal.

“I am very happy with Electrolyser. He has been second in the Goodwood Cup
before so he clearly acts on the track and any showers would be in his favor,”
trainer Clive Cox said.

“He won nicely at Nottingham first time out this year but he is racing at a
competitive level and this race is no different — it looks like a very hot
race.

“It was a bit of tactical affair at Sandown last time and a few others just
quickened up a bit smarter than him in the closing stages, but I’m happy he goes
to Goodwood in good order.”

The field for the Goodwood Cup is completed by 2010 Cesarewitch Handicap
winner Aaim to Prosper, representing Brian Meehan, and Andrew Balding’s Chiberta
King.

Top-quality action at Goodwood on Thursday also includes the Group 2, £70,000
Richmond Stakes, which has attracted eight runners including stakes winners Cay
Verde and Master of War plus Group 2 July Stakes third Ahern.

The Group 3, £55,000 Group 3 Lillie Langtrey Stakes has a quality field
including The Queen’s Royal Ascot heroine Estimate, who was a comfortable winner
of the Group 3 Queen’s Vase on June 21. She will face stiff competition from
Irish raider Midnight Soprano and stakes scorers Hazel Lavery and Hawaafez.
