Executiveprivilege tops Del Mar Debutante

Executiveprivilege has been a dominant factor so far in the Southern California two-year-old filly ranks (Benoit Photo) An impressive winner in each of her first three starts, Executiveprivilege will look to add another prize when she squares off against eight challengers in Saturday’s Grade 1, $300,000 Del Mar Debutante. The Bob Baffert-trained daughter of First Samurai figures to be an overwhelming favorite with regular rider Rafael Bejarano. An odds-on favorite in every start, Executiveprivilege won her first two appearances at Hollywood Park, taking a June 28 maiden special weight by 4 1/2 lengths before cruising to a 3 1/4-length score in the July 14 Landaluce Stakes. The bay two-year-old filly made a seamless transition to Polytrack, capturing the Grade 3 Sorrento at Del Mar by 1 1/4 lengths on August 8, and Executiveprivilege can continue to enhance her reputation as the horse to beat in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies with another strong effort Saturday. She drew a favorable starting position in post 8.

Top challengers in the seven-furlong event include a pair from the barn of
leading trainer Peter Miller, Heir Kitty and Miss Empire, the respective second-
and third-place finishers against males in the Grade 2 Best Pal on August 5.
Heir Kitty will break from the rail with new pilot Corey Nakatani. The
late-running Miss Empire starts from post 3 with regular rider Kevin Krigger.

Miller is also responsible for Speedinthruthecity, who has recorded
non-threatening seconds behind Executiveprivilege in both the Sorrento and
Landaluce. Joe Talamo has the assignment.

John Sadler will send out Mechaya, a good-looking debut winner over the
Polytrack on August 10, and Hall of Famer Richard Mandella is responsible for
Beholder, a daylight maiden scorer when making her second start on July 22.

Sorrento fourth-placer Renee’s Titan, last-out maiden special weight victress
Pat’s Back and the maiden Wasted at Midnight complete the field.

Brubaker Stakes has drawn a nice field of seven older horses earlier on the
program. John Scott and Kettle Corn, the second- and third-place finishers in
the Grade 2 San Diego earlier this meet, will both cut back to the one-mile
distance, and Grade 1 winner Midnight Interlude will try Polytrack following a
fourth in the grassy Wickerr Stakes. Tres Borrachos, Holladay Road and Spud
Spivens add further depth to the field.
