Last updated: 8/22/12 7:39 PM

A March 31-foaled son of grass champion Kitten’s Joy brought a final bid of
$110,000 at the first open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s August
Yearling Sale on Wednesday. Consigned by Dapple Stud, agent, Hip No. 284 was
gaveled down to Al Pike, agent.

Produced by the Skywalker mare No Deadline, the Kentucky-bred colt counts as
a half-brother Cannonball (Catientus), a three-time stakes winner in the U.S.
who finished second in the Group 1 Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot in 2009. The
New York-bred gelding was also Grade 3-placed thrice in the U.S. and once in
Australia. Also from this immediate family is the multiple stakes winner Musical
Flair (Songandaprayer).

Further back, this female line produced the Hall of Fame mare Gamely (Bold
Ruler) and Drumtop (Round Table), the noted grass mare of the early 1970s.

John Stephens was the final bidder at $70,000 for a Songandaprayer colt who
sported Hip 466. The Kentucky-bred was consigned by Beth Bayer, agent.

The February 5 foal was produced by the unraced Viola Blew By (Omega Code), a
half-sister to Grade 2-placed stakes victor Bee Cee Cee (Songandaprayer) and the stakes-placed
winners Mighty David (End Sweep), Lily’s Hope (Proud Accolade) and Amazer (Quaker
Ridge). All were out of the stakes-scoring Mighty Rose (Mighty Appealing).

Two yearlings each brought $60,000. SPRING ACTION (Spring at Last), a
February 13 colt, was purchased by trainer Mark Casse, agent, from the
consignment of I. C. Stables, agent. The Florida-bred toured the ring as Hip
259.

Produced by Miss Icicle (Charlie Barley), the yearling is a half-brother to
the Canadian stakes-placed Mankato Strike (Tenpins) and hails from the family of
Singletary (Sultry Song), hero of the Breeders’ Cup Mile in 2004. The
colt’s sixth dam is Leallah (*Nasrullah), the co-champion juvenile filly of
1956.

Spring Action was previously a $7,500 OBS October weanling.

Also bringing $60,000 was Hip 311, an Offlee Wild colt consigned by Dapple
Stud, agent. W.D. North Thoroughbreds was the highest bidder on the
Kentucky-bred.

The April 27 foal was produced by Perpetual Motion (Kingmambo), making him a
half-brother to the Grade 2-placed Royal F J (Royal Academy). The colt’s second
dam, Group 2-placed listed winner Northern Eternity (Northern Dancer), is a
half-sister to Group 1 hero and noted sire Miswaki (Mr. Prospector). Northern
Eternity produced Eternity Star (Majestic Light), winner of the Grade 1
Hollywood Derby in 1991.

The colt was led out unsold following an $18,000 bid at the Fasig-Tipton
Winter Mixed Sale in Kentucky this past February.

On Wednesday, 206 yearlings brought $2,890,100, an increase of 9.6 percent
over the corresponding session in 2011 when 213 horses sold for $2,636,400. The
session average rose 13.4 percent, from $12,377 to $14,030, while the median was
up 11.1 percent, from $9,000 to $10,000.

The sale concludes with an open session Thursday that begins at 10:30 a.m.
(EDT). For full results, visit
