Grade 1 star Nobiz Like Shobiz recorded his first winner as a freshman sire
Wednesday evening when Thank You Kisses rallied in the
5TH
race at Hoosier Park. Trained by Michael Nance and ridden by Rodney Prescott,
the 7-2 chance was always within striking range before charging between foes
down the lane. Thank You Kisses pulled away by 1 1/2 lengths while finishing the
six-furlong maiden special weight for Indiana-breds in 1:13 4/5 on the fast
track.
Bred by South River Ranch Inc., Thank You Kisses races for M.Y. Stables Inc.
The two-year-old gelding was produced by multiple Ohio-bred stakes queen Lady
Cherie, by Al Sabin.
Nobiz Like Shobiz was among the prominent juveniles of 2006. A 10 3/4-length
debut winner at Belmont Park, he was runner-up in the Grade 1 Champagne in his
second start, and raced onto the Kentucky Derby radar screen with a 6 1/2-length
romp in the Grade 2 Remsen.
During the early part of his three-year-old season, Nobiz Like Shobiz
captured the Grade 1 Wood Memorial and Grade 3 Holy Bull and just missed when
third in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth. But after a 10th in the Kentucky Derby,
and a second in the Grade 2 Dwyer, he found better success on the grass.
Nobiz Like Shobiz promptly won three in a row after switching surfaces. He
fought bravely to prevail in the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame
and Grade 3 Kent, but the Grade 2 Jamaica was no contest, for he rolled by a
good-looking four lengths. A fine fourth in the 2007 Breeders’ Cup Mile at soggy
Monmouth, he later retired with $1,544,730 in earnings from his 13-7-2-1 record.
Sired by the *Ribot-line stallion Albert the Great, Nobiz Like Shobiz is out
of the winning Storm Cat mare Nightstorm, making him a half-brother to Grade
2-placed Hello Broadway. He descends from the influential matron Swoon’s Tune,
to whom he is inbred 5 x 4.
The eight-year-old Nobiz Like Shobiz stands at Crestwood Farm near Lexington,
Kentucky, for $5,000, live foal.
