Jockey Ramon Dominguez has been transferred from New York-Presbyterian
Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center to Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White
Plains, New York, and has begun inpatient therapy for a skull fracture sustained
in a January 18 spill at Aqueduct.
“Ramon continues to do well and is improving every day,” said Sharon
Dominguez, the three-time Eclipse Award champion jockey’s wife. “He was
transferred to Burke on Wednesday, completed initial evaluations on Thursday,
and started a brain injury rehabilitation program on Friday. As Ramon takes the
next steps in his treatment, he and I would like to thank everyone again for the
continued support and prayers. Although his injury will take time to heal, Ramon
is on the road to a full recovery.”
There is currently no timetable for Ramon Dominguez’s release from Burke
Rehabilitation Hospital.
A native of Venezuela, Dominguez led all riders on the NYRA circuit in 2012
with 322 victories and led the nation in earnings with $25.6 million. Fellow New
York jockeys John Velazquez and Javier Castellano accepted the 2012 Eclipse
Award on behalf of Dominguez at the awards ceremony on January 19 at Gulfstream
Park.
