Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider’s homebred Sign has been disqualified
from her win in last year’s Grade 2 Pocahontas at Churchill Downs after the
official testing laboratory for the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission found a
trace amount of Methocarbamol in the filly’s post-race test.
A split sample, tested at Iowa State University, confirmed the presence of
the Class C drug.
The order of finish for the Pocahontas, a one-mile race run on October 28,
has been revised pending appeals. The winner’s share of $101,125 has been
awarded to runner-up Gal About Town, who subsequently finished second in the
Grade 2 Golden Rod and the January 19 Silverbulletday at Fair Grounds.
Sign crossed the finish four lengths in front of Gal About Town in the
Pocahontas. That win came two months after the daughter of Pulpit posted an
emphatic 11 3/4-length victory in her debut at Saratoga.
Sign was declared off the Kentucky Oaks trail last month after undergoing
surgery to stabilize an injured hind ankle. She is expected to return action in
the summer.
In addition, trainer Al Stall Jr. was fined $250.
