Violence sidelined with fracture, off Derby trail

Grade 1 winner Violence has been sidelined after sustaining a fracture to his right front medial sesamoid.

The fracture was detected after the Medaglia d’Oro colt suffered his first
career loss when second in Saturday’s Grade 2 Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park.

Resting comfortably at Gulfstream Park, the dark bay colt will ship
to owner Steven Marshall’s Black Rock Stable’s Farm near Versailles, Kentucky, this week
for further evaluation and recuperation.

“It’s such a disappointment to see such a promising colt
sustain an injury,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “He’s been training beautifully
and made such an impressive effort in his second-place finish yesterday.”

Violence was making his three-year-old bow in the Fountain of Youth. He
captured his maiden debut at Saratoga last August and then added the Grade 2
Nashua to his resume three months later.

The Kentucky-bred closed out his perfect juvenile season with a 1 1/4-length
victory in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park on December 15.

Violence earned 20 points in the new Road to the
Kentucky Derby points system for his runner-up effort in the Fountain of Youth, moving into third place in
the overall standings with 30 points.

He’s thus far banked $623,000 to go along with his 4-3-1-0 career mark.
