A colt by classic winner Birdstone was gaveled down to Michael Dilger, agent,
for $375,000 Wednesday at the third session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales
Company’s Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The April 2 Kentucky-bred
was consigned by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), agent, and was cataloged as
Hip No. 607.
The chestnut was produced by Grade 3-placed Literary Light (Ide), a full
sister to Grade 3-placed multiple stakes winner Junior College. This extended family is also
responsible for multiple Grade 1 scorer Pioneerof the Nile (Empire Maker), Grade
2 winner Powis Castle (Rare Brick) and, further back, two-time champion sprinter
Decathlon (Olympia).
Previously a $70,000 Fasig-Tipton October yearling, the juvenile worked one
furlong in :10 1/5 at last week’s under tack show.
Also selling for $375,000 was Hip 866, a Pulpit colt, to Donato Lanni, agent.
The May 10 Kentucky-bred was consigned by Eddie Woods, agent.
The bay was reared by Rhythmical Beat (Fusaichi Pegasus), a three-quarter
sister to listed-winning sire Mutakddim (Seeking the Gold). The colt descends
from 1971 juvenile filly champion Numbered Account (Buckpasser), whose
descendants include juvenile champion colt Rhythm (Mr. Prospector), Kentucky
Derby winner Super Saver (Maria’s Mon), and Grade/Group 1 winners Private
Account (Damascus), Frost Giant (Giant’s Causeway), Girolamo (A.P. Indy),
Bluegrass Cat (Storm Cat), and Assatis (Topsider).
The juvenile work one-eighth in :10 at the under tack show.
THANK YOU DADDY (Hear No Evil) brought $370,000 from Conquest Stables. The
March 24 filly was offered by Blue River Bloodstock, agent, and toured the ring
as Hip 890. The Florida-bred was produced by the unraced Saint Sammi (Saint Ballado), a
full sister to multiple Grade 2-winning sire Flame Thrower.
Previously a $15,000 OBS August yearling, Thank You Daddy worked the fastest quarter-mile
at the under tack show in :20 2/5.
Mike House and Sam Britt were the winning bidders at $350,000 for Hip 645, a
January 26 colt by Flatter. The Kentucky-bred was offered by Halcyon Hammock
Farm, agent.
The dark bay was produced by the winning Malamado (Broken Vow), a half-sister
to multiple Grade 2 vixen Tar Heel Mom (Flatter) and to Grade 3-winning
Preakness runner-up Scrappy T (Fit to Fight). Hall of Famer Stymie (Equestrian)
also hailed from this female line.

1/5 at the under tack show.
Business continued to be brisk with three-quarters of the sale in the books.
On Wednesday, 205 two-year-olds sold for $13,465,000, a rise of 57.9 percent
over last year when 202 brought $8,526,700. The session average was up 55.6
percent, from $42,211 to $65,683, while the median rose 48.1 percent, from
$27,000 to $40,000.
Cumulatively, 618 horses have changed hands for $38,563,500, a jump of 54.8
percent over this point in 2012 when $24,914,700 was realized from the sale of
595 juveniles. The average has risen 49 percent, from $41,873 to $62,400, while
the median is up 48.1 percent, from $27,000 to $40,000.
