Jockey Stewart Elliott fittingly captured his second graded stakes of the day
at Parx Racing aboard Edge of Reality in Monday’s Grade 3, $350,000

Smarty Jones
, which honors the champion colt Elliott guided to victories in
the 2004 Kentucky Derby and Preakness.

Elliott, who was also aboard Stormofthecentury for a 28-1 upset victory in
the Grade 3 Turf Monster Handicap, sent Edge of Reality to the lead from post 2,
held a one-length lead through splits of :23 4/5 and :47 4/5, and then gamely
held off 10-1 shot Speak Logistics through the final half-mile to win by a neck
in a time of 1:42 15 for one mile and 70 yards over a muddy track. Part of an
entry that was sent off the as slight 5-2 favorite, Edge of Reality paid $7.80.

Speak Logistics, making his second start off a four-month break, couldn’t
quite get by the winner but easily held off Uncaptured, the 3-1 second choice,
by 4 1/4 lengths. Following Uncaptured under the wire were Battier, Micromanage,
Betweenhereandcool, Snake Pit, Norumbega, English Manor, and Bellarmine.

This was the fourth win at Parx and the third on an off-track for Edge of
Reality, a three-year-old Lawyer Ron colt who races for his breeder, The
Elkstone Group. The Tony Dutrow trainee debuted at Parx in mid-January, winning
by eight lengths going six furlongs, but ran out of the money behind eventual
King’s Bishop winner Capo Bastone in a Gulfstream allowance next out.

Returned to Parx, Edge of Reality finished second against allowance foes
before winning twice at that level, the latter against older foes going a mile.
He made his stakes debut in the $100,000 Curlin at Saratoga July 26 where he
retreated to fourth after racing wide around both turns, but was elevated to
third via disqualification. His record now stands at 7-4-1-1, $354,555.

Bred in Pennsylvania, Edge of Reality was produced by the winning Our Nancy
Lee, a Touch Gold daughter out of Grade 3 winner Scratch Paper.
