Perfect Soul colt tops CTHS Yearling Sale

Last updated: 9/4/13 10:19 AM

A bay colt by Canadian champion grass horse and leading sire Perfect Soul
topped Tuesday’s Selected Session of the Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale, selling
for $170,000 at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion in Toronto. Out of the Seeking the
Gold mare Tapatina, the youngster was purchased by Cudney Stables & Partner and
consigned by Richard G. Hogan, agent.

A bay colt from the first crop of Marchfield, twice champion in Canada,
brought the second highest price of the sale when Robert P. Tiller, agent for
Rolph A. Davis, signed the ticket for $100,000. The colt is out of the Giant’s
Causeway mare Good Religion and was consigned by Cara Bloodstock (Bernard
McCormack), agent.

“Horses that were well-bred, well-conformed and well presented were well
accepted,” said Ryan Mahan, Chief Auctioneer of Ryan R Mahan & Associates Inc.
“The uncertainty of the market in Canada was also reflected but as with all
commercial ventures, the cream does rise to the top. There were certainly some
athletes that walked through the ring that I expect to see again at the
racetrack winning races.”

The Selected Sale resulted in 137 yearlings selling for $3,003,000, down
23.82  percent from last year’s total of $3,942,000. The average price was
$21,920, down 13.81 percent from last year at $25,432. Yearlings not sold
totaled 75, an increase of 45 percent from last year.

The Open Session of the 2013 Canadian-Bred Yearling Sale starts Saturday at 5
