Campaigned by Preston Stables LLC, Flat Out recorded 18 triple-digit BRIS
Speed figures during his time on track,
including the fastest BRIS Speed number of 2012 in a stakes when he earned a 117
rating for defending his title in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. He also won the
Grade 2 Suburban Handicap for the second time this year before capping off his career with a Cigar
Mile victory over five Grade 1 winners.
“Flat Out possesses the tremendous heart and talent that is only found in the
truly top-class racehorses, and he proved that with his honesty, consistency,
and ability to overcome. I’d have to rank him number one among the most exciting
horses I’ve raced,” said owner Art Preston, who has also campaigned such
racehorses as champion Victory Gallop.
“Spendthrift is an established stud farm
with great history and class, and Wayne (Hughes) has been an innovator with his
breeding programs. I’m making a plan to breed some mares to Flat Out and it
should be a lot of fun.”
By A.P. Indy’s son Flatter, Flat Out retires sound with a record of 9-5-5 from
