lengths ahead of 21-1 outsider Sushi Empire. The three betting favorites, led by
7-2 second choice Nesso, all finished out of the money. Clenor finished a dull
fifth while Love in the Desert, who set contested fractions of :24 2/5, :49 1/5,
and 1:13 4/5, completed the order of finish.
Fourth in her September 2 debut at Del Mar going 5 1/2 furlongs on the
Polytrack, Full Ransom made her turf debut at Santa Anita on October 17 going a
mile. She led throughout in beating that field of maidens by 1 1/2 lengths, and
has now earned $93,300.
Bred in Florida by Gregg James, Full Ransom brought $25,000 last May at the
Barretts two-year-old in training sale. She was produced by the winning Red
Ransom mare Retroesque, whose stakes-placed half-sister, Little Bonnet, produced
Grade 1 winner Boys at Tosconova.
Retroesque was reared by multiple Grade 3 winner Valid Bonnet. Also hailing
from this female family is multiple Grade 3 winner Speakerphone.
“That’s the best $25,000 (owner Deron Pearson) ever spent,” Cassidy said.
“She was reasonably cheap, but she had all the parts in the right place and I
really liked her.”
